Cenote Sac Actun, Ziplining, and Cave Repelling

About a half hour from the Rivera Maya, Mexico, is a grand Cenote called Sac Actun, located in Tulum. In May 2014 I had the chance to visit this beautiful place far in the jungles of Mexico. Upon arrival, my tour guide had made us wash all artificial products of sunscreen, perfume, and shampoo residue off of our bodies in order to perserve the naturally purified water found in the Sac Actun mineral caves. These caves have been created through thousands of years through a process called speleogenesis, which is basically how the rocks are weathered through time.

Due the fact that this place is located on Sacred Mayan Grounds, it was mandatory for any stranger to perform a Mayan Ritual before entering the site. It was very important we shared our respsect with the Mayans because the area was once theirs before the spanish started taking over the land. Only a few Mayan residants remain in Mexico and have reservation of perticular areas. We would not have been allowed in this gorgeous site without their permission.

The first thing I got to do here was cave repelling into an underground mineral cave. The water was so naturally cool and refreshing. The rock formation in the cave were all so breathtaking! Photos can't even do it justice!

Next we got to ZIPLINE! This was my first Ziplinging experiance and I would totally do it again. The tour guide brings you to a total of 3 ziplines. The first two are high up in the jungle, the last one is smaller but it lands you in a cenote pool! (Side note: JJ is the cutest, funniest tour guide ever! <3 )

The final part of my trip was snorkling in the cenotes. The beauty in this is that the water is so naturally purified that their are barely any fish, or plant life in it. Just breath taking rock structures and cooling water that feels like it's cleansing your body just swimming in it. Although you must BEWARE, bats also love these beautiful caves and you might just find yourself swimming amonst hundreds of bats flying over your head. But they're harmless, keep your eyes in the water, don't make a sound and you won't even know they are there!

Some other fun facts on my trip here are you also take this VERY bumpy, wild ride through the jungle on this huge monster truck! Sit in the front if you don't want to be thrown around. I sat in the back(;

There is also a 15 minute walk back through the jungle, WEAR SNEAKERS! Don't be like me and have your only sandel break during the walk back. Yes, I had to walk barefoot through the Mayan Jungle. Yes, I almost cried. Wear SNEAKERS.

This is my amazing friend Sam who I shared my trip with. Follow her on instagram at @samanth_djamoos
